According to the experience gained through observation and interaction with many different managers and multidisciplinary teams, I have seen the need to analyze the relationship between empowerment, assertiveness and leadership, without any pretensions to put in the debate, analysis on the responsibility that should be the leader in the effectiveness of its management, hoping that from the viewpoint of disciplines as diverse as organizational psychology, anthropology and sociology, beyond the scope of my responsibilities is to provide scientific basis for this analysis to reaffirm or refute it.
As a starting point, it is timely to note that the position of Manager, Area Manager, Supervisor, or one that involves a staff function under dependence, hereinafter the Executive for the purposes of this analysis is not necessarily synonymous attributed Leader This only appears when is invested with legitimacy in the eyes of his followers.
From another point of view, which may seem contradictory to the above, but in practice is clear, empowerment is looming as a faculty leader, or legitimate given from above by senior management, independent, that the leader legitimize their followers for their own attributes, but this power is granted always and necessarily, from the formal organizational structure.
For the purpose of this analysis, necessarily and by the way, just try this element from the perspective of management.
It is disturbing to note, as this power so necessary to give legitimacy to the Executive, the company today, are evaded and even dramatically, ignored or partially implemented. Click here to read more.. »

Leadership, basically, is how to motivate employees to implement plans. There are different styles of leadership. The authoritarian, the participatory and which draws heavily on the delegation.
Good leaders know how to mix the three styles and ill tend to maintain a single style that is authoritarian, also called autocratic. The latter style is characterized by leaders tell their employees what they should do and how we should do, without regard to their views.
Thus, employees are not motivated because this style also usually accompanied by shouting or threats. This authoritarian style, can be abusive and should be used rarely. If you want a greater commitment and motivation of employees, use the participative style.
This style implies that one or more partners involved in the process of decision making (determining what to do and how). The leader retains the authority and ability to make the final decision and this involvement should be considered as a sign of strength. Not necessarily waiting for a leader to know everything and use of this style is of mutual benefit and employees feel part of the team and their best decisions.
In the delegation-based style, while the leader remains responsible for decisions, is used when employees are able to determine what to do and how. The leader can not do everything and should know how to delegate certain tasks. This style uses the trust in its employees.
A good leader uses all three styles, depending on the time and circumstances. The authoritarian style can be used (but not overdo it) with a new employee is learning on the job or in the case of misconduct. The use of participatory style sense with a team of workers who know their job. The delegation style should be used with a partner who knows, even the leader on a specific problem.
